The official declaration of the winner was announced last night at the opening of the biennial Exhibition of Croatian Design 1516 at the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb.
Festival Design District Zagreb, whose first edition was held in June of this year on Martićeva street, won the Grand Prize of the Croatian Designers Society (HDD). Festival Design District Zagreb won as a project that in the past two years on the Croatian design scene has had quality, innovation and a message. The award was announced last night at the opening of the biennial Exhibition of Croatian Design 1516 at the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb.
“This festival has managed to generate a remarkable amount of positive energy and enthusiasm within the intertwined network of participants, content creators, visitors, residents, business owners, city institutions and even sponsors involved in the event through concrete, design projects,’” pointed out the award explanation.

The first edition of the festival brought together about 100 designers, architects and activists, from those that promote local design and architectural heritage through projects aimed to design an experiment or the creation of new urban facilities. The author of the project and Creative Director of the Festival Design District Zagreb is Ira Payer, with the organizing team made up of Hiam Hamed, Iva Hrvatin, Bojan Krištofić, Ivana Dvorski, Marija Kata Vlašić, Tena Cuculić, Maja Pleša, and Ivana Perišić.
Otherwise, the biennial exhibition of Croatian design traditionally gives an insight into the quality of recent design production, with an emphasis on the role of design in society. This year’s 9th edition presented 213 works – 169 professional and 44 student.
The ninth edition of the exhibition, which has been organized by Croatian Designers Society since 1999, included eight categories: Visual Communications Design, Design in Digital Media / Interaction Design, Packaging Design, Industrial / Product Design, Spacious and Graphic Interventions and Systems, Fashion and Clothing Design, Complete Project / Product and Concept / Initiative / Critical Design.
