Former HDZ Councilor on Murter Smashes Cafe with Axe

Total Croatia News

While Croatian politicians are known for doing almost anything imaginable, this is a bit too much.

Former HDZ Councilor at the island of Murter, D.S. (70), was detained by the police on Sunday after he started smashing a cafe in front of shocked tourists and locals, reports Sibenik.in on 26 July 2017.

As can be seen in the photo taken by locals and sent to Sibenik.in, the axe was quite large. According to reports, the man lives near the cafe and was probably bothered by the noise.

The Šibenik police confirmed that the incident happened, but for now they could not release any more information about the event itself and their possible follow-up actions.

D. S did not want to comment on his actions. According to people living on Murter, it is possible that he was bothered by the noise and the crowds in the cafe which has lately been quite popular and is full of guests all the time.

The Šibenik-Knin Police Administration did not mention the incident in its official reports in recent days.

The Mayor of Murter-Kornati Municipality Toni Turčinov briefly commented that such way of solving problems was not proper in any situation and that the issue should have been resolved by talking with the owners of the cafe or representatives of the municipality.

“Cafes have licenses to operate until two or three in the morning, but the music must then be turned down. If the man was bothered by the music and, as far as I know, that was the problem, he should have peacefully explained what the problem was,” said Mayor Turčinov.
