What happens when a Croatian singing group from Ontario serenades tourists in the Big Apple?  You’ll want to keep reading below.

October 10, 2018 – New York City’s Times Square is a playground for tourists from all over the world. Famous for its ‘bright lights, big city’ vibe, the popular attraction is also known to draw hundreds of street performers each day. While you might be familiar with some of Time Square’s staples, such as the ‘Naked Cowboy’, you’d most likely be surprised to find a group of Croatians playing songs of the homeland in the crowded New York streets.

Such is the story of Grupa Volta, a Croatian band who has played throughout Ontario, Canada and beyond for 25 years. The band, whose members include Ante Milardović, Brian Ćapin, Michael Šavor and Daniel Hunski, decided to take their love of Croatian song to the Big Apple – and sure enough, their performance thrilled the many tourists who reached for their mobile phones to film the Times Square attraction.

“Since the first day, Grupa Volta always had the vision to spread their love for Croatia through music and song. We have already been doing this for 25 years, and if God will allow it we’ll do it for another 25 years,” wrote band member Ante Milardović on Facebook.

Fortunately, a video of Grupa Volta singing the Tomislav Brajša hit ‘Hrvatska mati me rodila’ surfaced on social media, which has already been viewed 26,000 times on Facebook, been liked over 700, and shared some 400 times.
