An unlikely, inadvertent Konzum promo from the BBC.

The BBC’s popular show ”McMafia” follows the story of Alex Godman, an English-raised son of Russian exiles with a deep mafia history. Despite trying to pursue a normal life, Alex comes to realise that blood is thicker than water as he becomes sucked into their sordid lifestyle of crime. McMafia seems to have featured a rather unlikely accidental promo for Croatia’s most well known supermarket – Konzum, click here for the photo.

Nobody does drama quite like the British. The Brits rightfully win awards left, right and center when it comes to their talent for incredible drama production. A new hit from the BBC, inspired by most well known international organised crime unit, the Mafia, has inadvertently given a bit of limelight to the most famous Croatian fugitive in Britain, Agrokor’s former majority owner, often referred to as ”gazda” (boss) Ivica Todorić, 67.

Todorić, now a self-proclaimed ”citizen in England” is currently residing in a wealthy area of London after having paid £100,000 bail to the British authorities following his arrest at Charing Cross Station where he voluntarily turned himself in and was detained by the Metropolitan police under the conditions of the European Arrest Warrant that had been issued for his capture.

As 24sata writes on the 7th of January, 2018, in one scene, the main actor, James Norton, is being driven in a luxury car alongside an associate, and in the mirror of the glass, the reflection of the easily recognisable bright red Konzum sign appears.

The series that recently premiered in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has also been filmed in Croatia, from Zagreb and Rovinj to the island of Pag and Split.

”The locations are great. Beautiful coastline, vibrant cities. The team’s great advantage is that everyone is so good at their job, and they’re also wonderful people, they really cared that we enjoyed our work,” Norton said of the experience of filming in Croatia.

On the set in Croatia, more than 150 local filmmakers and three thousand statists were engaged, including Nina Violić, Lucija Šerbedžija, Goran Navojec, Željko Vukmiric, Vanja Matujec, Romina Tonković…

The question of the hour is whether or not Ivica Todorić himself has had a chance to watch the series. Maybe he’ll let us know what he thinks of McMafia’s mention of Konzum via his infamous blog.
