ZAGREB, March 13, 2018 – About a dozen houses have been damaged, of which several severely, by a landslide in Hrvatska Kostajnica, 70 kilometres southeast of Zagreb, however, no casualties were reported.

At the time of the incident, the Civil Protection Crisis Management Centre was convening in Hrvatska Kostajnica and the session was attended by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.

The people living in those houses heard a loud noise and ran outside, so no one was injured.

Upon receiving the news about the landslide, the participants in the Crisis Management Centre meeting, including Plenković, Defence Minister Damir Krstičević, Environment Protection Minister Tomislav Ćorić, the head of the National Protection and Rescue Directorate Dragan Lozančić, and Croatian water management company director Zoran Đuroković, headed to the scene.

“A part of the hill slope collapsed, but fortunately there were no casualties. The cause of the landslide is heavy snowmelt… In cooperation with Sisak-Moslavina County, the government will do its best to help the people who lost their homes. We will provide them with accommodation and help them rebuild their homes,” Plenković said.
