Anđa Perić has lived in five states and through three wars.

The oldest inhabitant of Croatia, Anđa Perić from Kotlenica near Dugopolje, celebrated on Saturday her 108th birthday together with her family, announced Split-Dalmatia County, reports Lokalni.hr on October 18, 2018.

Anja Perić was born on October 13, 1910. She has a son and two daughters, four grandchildren, three great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. She has lived in five states and through three wars. She never attended school but has worked hard all her life. Every day she would walk 25 kilometres to the Sinj Field, carrying heavy cargo on her back. She sowed corn and potatoes, worked in the fields and raised animals.

Anđa’s son Vlado (75), who together with his wife takes care of his mother, says that she has lost some energy after her 96-year-old brother died ten months ago. Vlado says that Anđa has not taken a single pill in the last ten years, and ever before she used to say she would take pills only if the pain does not stop on its own.

When asked if it was time to call a priest to perform the last rites, she paused a little bit and then said that it was not yet her time.

Anđa added that the recipe for longevity was having a harmonious family life and good daughters-in-law.

“And yes, I know I am older than Hajduk football club,” said Anđa to people who came to congratulate her on her birthday.

In addition to family and friends, she was visited by Mayor of Dugopolje, Perica Bosančić, and Prefect of Split-Dalmatia County, Blaženko Boban.
