Earlier this summer, the city of Šibenik was granted EU funds for two major projects – the reconstruction of the fortress Sv. Ivana and the revitalization of Galbiani palace in the city center. The project of the Galbiani palace will include, in addition to a complete renovation of the facade and interesting additions to the interior, a museum dedicated to Šibenik’s Cathedral of St. James.

The project was approved for almost 31 million kuna from the European Regional Development Fund over the summer. The author of the project is Šibenik creative agency “Kocka” who is responsible for the work and implementation, while the company Avensys is responsible for the application. The project leader is the Šibenik Diocese, partnered with the City of Šibenik and the Tourist Board of Šibenik, reports Journal.hr.

The project was conceived as an interactive and modern museum to interpret the historical legacy of one of the most important symbols of the city. Some of the innovations include video projections and drone recordings, with many interactive activities for visitors to participate in.

The Šibenik Cathedral is the most important architectural monument of the Renaissance in the entire country, and since 2000, the Cathedral has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

“The restoration of the palace Galbiani is surely one of the most important cultural projects in Šibenik because it will finally be properly evaluated as a Šibenik church under UNESCO protection of the Šibenik Cathedral,” reported Sibenik.in at the end of July.
