Deputy Mayor Jelena Hrgović opened the exhibition ‘Discovering Marjan’ at the Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments in Split where over 40,000 visitors attended museum events around the city.

More than 40,000 Split citizens visited museums and institutions that opened their doors as part of the traditional ‘Night of Museums’ event last night, reports Dalmatinski Portal on January 27, 2018.

The theme of the 13th edition was “Museums and Sport – Faster, Stronger” which for the first time included a Croatian football club – Hajduk. The famous Split football club opened their trophy salon at Poljud to visitors which saw 4200 people in the first four hours. There was also a great interest in the organized program at the Star Village Mosor, which was visited by more than a thousand people last night.

We learned from the Croatian Museum Society, the organizers of the event, that an hour and a half into the museum night in Split, around 75 percent of the participants’ data was processed, already recording 32,514 visitors during this period. The exact (total) number will be known after all the data has been processed.

In the Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments, Deputy Mayor Jelena Hrgović opened the exhibition ‘Discovering Marjan’, to which Robert Koharević, the director of the Marjan Forest Park, said it was conceived in four chapters depicting the natural and cultural riches of Marjan through the historical periods.

“This exhibition aims to draw attention to the rich natural and cultural heritage that the Marjan Peninsula hides and reveals. It is clear that the great role of Marjan is also to be called “the lungs” of our city. I believe that this exhibition is designed with a wealth of information and obviously made with a lot of love, to show our fellow citizens new things about Marjan, which will make them admire the famous hill even more. I am glad that the exhibition is organized tonight, on the occasion of the traditional ‘Night of Museums’, which is visited by an increasing number of our citizens every year,” said Hrgović, who also visited the ‘Sprint’ exhibition at the Old Town Hall which displayed contemporary artwork focused on sport by Croatian artists.
