Šime Strikoman, Croatian photographer known for his millennium photo series, took his 595th photo, the latest from Homo Volans – Faust Vrančić’s Parachute series, to commemorate the Croatian inventor on the event of the 400th anniversary of his death.

The National and University Library in Zagreb will honour the anniversary of the death of one of the most notable 16 and 17th-century Croatian inventors and by putting on an exhibition in the Library’s lobby. The exhibition, called Renesansni Faustus Verantius (The Renaissance Faustus Verantius) will be on display November 6 – 25, as part of the Croatian Book Month 2017 programme. The exhibition is sponsored by the UNESCO and organised with the support of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Art and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia.

Mr Strikoman took his 595th millennium photo today, on October 20, 2017, in cooperation with the National and University Library. The shooting took place during the 15th International Innovation Exhibition ARCA, organised by the Croatian Association of Innovators, which we wrote about here.

Faust Frančić is famous for his designs of suspension cable-stayed bridges, aerial lift, mills, wind turbines, river-regulating projects for Rome and Venice; he authored a five-language dictionary, but he is best known for his Homo Volans, or The Flying Man – his design of the parachute.
