The Longest Table in Croatia Offers Amazing Specialties

Total Croatia News

Sausages, fish dishes, cookies and cakes were awaiting the hungry visitors.

The tastiest event of them all gathered together more than 150 exhibitors which came to the Požega area from all regions of Croatia, and also from neighbouring countries – Hungary, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, reports Večernji List on May 30, 2016.

Suffice it to say that it was not easy to abstain from the great gourmet offerings in Velika in Slavonia. The longest Croatian table has yet again this year offered a variety of dishes and food specialties, ranging from traditional kulen, sausages, bacon, čvarci (cracklings) to grilled fish, squid, fish stew, cakes and cookies, and many dishes with truffles. The list goes on and on. For just 20 kuna, each visitor was able to try all the foods that were exhibited at the festival. They also had the opportunity to sample different wines that the Požega area is famous for, and to taste many kinds of brandies and sweet liqueurs.

In addition to a great number of exhibitors, the most delicious event has attracted about 5,000 visitors. They all enjoyed the specialties from the 800 metre long gourmet table. Although there was over 1,000 kilos of food, everything was pretty much gone in less than one hour. The organizers of the event from the Municipality of Velika offered to the guests 1,500 pieces of Kranjska sausages served in pastries.

“We are happy that the festival attracts more and more attention of exhibitors every year. All of them bring their traditional customs, as well as foods and drinks to Velika”, said Municipal Mayor Vlado Boban.

Along the years, the longest Croatian table has become an original brand of Velika. It has been organized as part of the International Folklore fair that is traditionally being held under the slogan “Keeping the Local Customs Alive”. In addition to folklore acts, all the participants in the event brought a part of their culinary specialties that they shared with the enthusiastic and curious visitors who were in for one of the finest ethno-gastronomy parties.
