Fortunately, no one was hurt.
At the Gaženica Port in Zadar, two Jadrolinija ferries collided last night, but none of the passengers or crew members were injured in the collision, and there was no pollution to the sea, reports Index.hr on April 23, 2017.
During the departure from Gaženica, engines of the “Sis” ferry broke down, so the ferry continued to move towards the “Juraj Dalmatinac” ferry which was moored at the port. “Sis” collided with “Juraj Dalmatinac” and broke its outer hull.
The unofficial information was confirmed today by the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, which announced that the ferries “Sis” and “Juraj Dalmatinac” collided at the port of Gaženica at about 7.30 pm on Saturday evening.
“It was determined that during the departure from the ferry pier, due to difficulties in the operation of the manoeuvring plant, the left side of the stern ramp of ‘Sis’ hit the right side of ‘Juraj Dalmatinac’, which was moored at the ferry dock.
At the moment when the systems stopped functioning, and when it became apparent that they would not be able to make additional corrections and will inevitably hit the other ferry, the crew of ‘Sis’ took all the necessary steps to protect passengers and crew on both ferries before the inevitable collision by closing down the propulsion machinery to slow down the navigation and by issuing warnings to the passengers and crews of both ferries,” said the Ministry in the statement.
The “Juraj Dalmatinac” ferry has suffered damage to the outer hull in the length of about 60 centimetres on the right side, about 10 meters above the sea level, while “Sis” did not suffer any structural damage.
Until the technical problems are resolved, “Sis” will remain at the port of Gaženica, while “Juraj Dalmatinac” will be taken to a shipyard where the damage will be repaired, according to the statement.
