April the 16th, 2026 – Transport Minister Oleg Butković has stated that “there’s no fuel problems at Croatian airports” despite concerning headlines dominating the press.
Trump’s bizarre and deeply damaging actions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz have sent the energy and fuel market into a complete tailspin, with the aviation industry echoing concerns about potential flight disruption and soaring ticket prices across the world.
As far as Croatian airports are concerned, the relevant ministry claims that all is well – at least for now.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Oleg Butković has attempted to quieten widespread concerns by stating that “there are no fuel problems at Croatian airports”, adding that there’s no issue with the supply of fuel for air traffic in Croatia.
“Airlines that operate within, to and from Croatia keep on claiming that there is no fuel, or that they only have it for the next three weeks. I’ve had no such information. The distributor that supplies the seven largest Croatian airports, INA, has the whole fuel supply contract. There are enough quantities and there are no problems that could lead to a fuel shortage. So… in that sense, there’s no need for any drama or worry,” assured Minister Oleg Butković.
He also commented on the situation at the European and global levels, announcing that the fuel situation and possible joint measures will be discussed at an informal meeting of EU transport ministers next week.
“We’ll just have to wait and see what the experiences are and what the situations are in other countries. With the intervention of the government, we managed to keep the large price jump in fuel at a normal level. We will continue to do so,” he concluded.
