Miroslav Huđek, the head of the Varaždin County Department for Education, told a press conference on Tuesday that 26 vocational schools from throughout Croatia have applied and 12 have been granted accreditation.

Huđek said that the two accredited schools means that 40 per cent of vocational schools in Varaždin County have a stable source of funding in the 2021-2027 period. He noted that 70 per cent of secondary schools in the county are vocational schools, attended by about 5,000 students.

“Vocational education is the link with the economy and the labour market. We need to take account of the quality of education so that our schools can communicate with Europe,” Huđek said.

The head of the electrical engineering school, Igor Kos, said that they have been actively involved in EU projects since 2010. “The value of this project will be about 190,000 euro annually, because every year we plan to send about 30 students to other countries,” he said.

Maruševec Secondary School offers two medical programmes, for nurses and physiotherapists, who will be included in mobility. The school’s head Dejan Stanjević said that 15 of their students, including three members of the Roma minority, are already in Ireland. “It’s very important that all students have an equal opportunity for mobility programmes,” he stressed.
