Despite strong opposition, Uber is moving ahead with its operations in Croatia.
Seven months after arriving in Croatia, Uber will introduce fiscal cash registers in its vehicles and start issuing fiscal receipts, reports tportal.hr on May 6, 2016.
“Our partner-drivers have started installing fiscal cash registers”, said a source from Uber. Asked why they did not have such registers from the beginning, since it is well-known who has to issue fiscal receipts, Uber said that they “had been in a dialogue with the authorities since their arrival in Croatia” and that together they are trying to “find the best solution that is in accordance with the law”.
They noted that fiscal cash registers would be just a temporary solution and that their developers are working on setting up application which would allow users to receive fiscal receipts via e-mail. “In that way, user experience would be the same as it is now, with no physical receipt”, said Uber.
Although Uber already sends invoices to e-mail addresses of its users, the invoices include only the company name, mileage and the final price, without other necessary elements and, most importantly, without being connected to the tax administration fiscal receipt system.
“Uber’s partner-drivers issue an invoice for each ride. The Uber app automatically does it after each ride is finished. It is important to emphasize that all transactions through our application are completely transparent and traceable. Just like we adapt our business model to local market in line with the continued dialogue with the authorities, we have been tailoring our services in Zagreb so that fiscal receipts could be issued”, said Uber representatives, adding that the changes would not lead to increase in prices.
Jozo Kovačević, president of the Radio Zagreb Taxi Association, commented on the latest news from Uber. “I am surprised that they are doing this now. If they have not done it so far, perhaps they should not do it even now. The real question is why they have been allowed to work in this way. While we regularly fulfil our obligations, they are allowed to cheat the state. This is possible only in Croatia. Radio Taxi Zagreb is the oldest taxi association which has as professional members, people who have a permit for the work they do. I appeal to the authorities to check who the Uber drivers are”, said Kovačević.
