Zlatni Rat is one of the best-known symbols of Croatia, recognized for its captivating beauty and remarkable shape which was tweaked this week due to windy weather.

This distinctive ‘golden cape’ got its shape from a spit of land – and because the image of Zlatni Rat covers the pages of travel magazines around the world, we couldn’t imagine anything altering its appearance, could we?

Zlatni Rat has a new shape thanks to southern winds

Well, thanks to the windy weather on the Croatian coast this week, the renowned cape has a new shape! The result of several days of strong southern winds this week (welcome back, Jugo!), the tip of Zlatni Rat has turned to the west, reports Dalmacija Danas on November 2, 2018.

Zlatni Rat saw winds up to 120 kilometers per hour this week

Over the last few days, the winds in the area gusted relentlessly. The strongest wind was recorded at 120 km / h, which was measured during the heaviest part of the storm. Recall, just one day before, Dubrovnik recorded the tallest waves ever, measuring at 9 meters high!

Luckily, Bol resident Roni Marinković captured the natural phenomenon for all of us to see.

Zlatni Rat was selected as one of the best beaches in Europe multiple times and was even chosen as one of the dreamiest beaches on earth thanks to the Telegraph in 2017. The beach itself is 500 meters long and is just 2 kilometers from the town of Bol. Covered with white pebbles and the shade of the pine trees, this beach is also popular among adrenaline junkies – and especially windsurfers and kitesurfers (thank you, wind).

Recognized as a “Blue Flag” beach to ensure its cleanliness, Zlatni Rat is even protected by the government of Croatia as a geo-morphological monument!
