Total Croatia News

A bit of wilderness in the capital of Croatia.

While the first phase of Zagreb Zoo modernization started in October 2014 and it is currently in full swing, on March 31, 2016, the Zoo officials shared their new slogan with u us and it is “Wild heart of the city”.

The primary idea behind this slogan was to incorporate it into the slogan created by the Zagreb Tourist Board since its aim is to raise the quality of tourist offer with facilities and services that are available 365 days a year. The biggest accent in the modernization of the Zagreb Zoo was placed on increasing the service infrastructure – restaurants with full sanitary units for guests, new souvenir shop, educational centre, new entrance and exits, new bridges, restoration of paths and walkways, restoration of cultural heritage and construction of new and exciting attractions as well as modern habitats for animals.

This slogan reminds us that Zagreb, a city whose trademark is the Licitar heart, as one million hearts and residents as well as the hearts of the inhabitants of its Zoo. The aim was to weaken the emotional ties of the citizens of Zagreb with its Zoo located in Maksimir park.

„Adjective “wild “ shows us which Zagreb residents we are talking about. On the other hand, “heart” is a metaphor for the centre so we wanted to depict the Zoo not only as being located in the heart of the city but also show it as the centre of education, fun and entertainment that will soon have a brand new dimension. The heart also means love, life and emotions so that word ideally connects Zagreb, feelings and our Zoo” said Davorka Maljković, exert project coordinator.

Zoo management states that the modernization will motivate residents and tourists to visit the Zoo more frequent and spend more time exploring it. They also believe that all the new amenities will increase the annual number of visitors from current 260 000 to 350 000 and that the number of attendees in their educational programmes will grow from 18 000 to 24 000 a year.
