March the 20th, 2026 – Bookings for holidays in Croatia have jumped by 40% in just a few days, bringing relief to all those in the tourism sector as the country continues to be seen as very safe.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Toni Juranić of the Krk Tourist Board initiated a constructive discussion at a recent assembly session. In it, participants were able to hear various positive suggestions for improving tourism, as well as the potential positive reflections of the current war in the Middle East on the upcoming tourist season for Croatia as a whole, including Kvarner, Novi list reports.
The assembly members were presented with the Golden Bear (Zlatni medvjed) statuette as a symbol of the award that the Krk Tourist Board recently received as an international recognition for the promotional film “Krk Outdoor – Beyond the Map”, at the Golden City Gate festival in Berlin. The event is otherwise one of the most prestigious tourism and promotional film festivals in the entire world.
The festival was held within the popular ITB Berlin tourism fair, which is also one of the world’s leading tourism events. The previous director of the Krk Tourist Board, Majda Šale, who is retiring, announced that a new promotional film for Krk is also currently in the works, which she believes will be equally impressive.
croatia’s safety levels continue to lure visitors

One of the main topics at ITB was the ongoing war in the Middle East. According to the conclusions presented there, the aforementioned war could bring very good tourism results for Croatian tourism because the country continues being seen worldwide as an exceptionally safe destination.
“Kvarner’s advantage is that it is a destination that is accessed by road, not by air, which is facing some pressure due to the war. Over the past few days, bookings for holidays in Croatia have increased by 40%. I believe that we’ve got a good season ahead of us,” said Ivan Lončar from Hotel Krk.
Majda Šale revealed that she believes that all local tourist boards on the island of Krk have done a good job in offering and advertising the pre-season, but that as far as Easter is concerned, the results will probably be somewhat weaker than last year. This is primarily because this year, the holiday falls two weeks earlier than it did back in 2025. There was also talk of the Destination Management Plan and the calculation of the capacities Krk actually has.
will krk be getting its own app?

“We worked on all of the data throughout last year in order to develop this project, in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Tourism. We also conducted workshops with local government units, related tourist boards, hoteliers and private renters. The plan is practically ready and will soon be presented at the end of March. It will then go to a public discussion that will last 30 days,” stated Majda Šale, to which Juranić added that a month was deliberately taken for the discussion so that everyone interested would have time to present their suggestions and criticisms and thus contribute to making the project as high-quality as possible.
In the continuation of the free discussion, a proposal was heard that an application should be created through which all information about the tourist attractions and offers of the island of Krk could be accessed with a QR code.
The proposal was for the code that leads to an easy download of the app to be made available in many places as possible. As a very specific example of such a location, the popular viewpoint after the Krk Bridge was cited, where visitors could easily access informative and promotional content immediately upon arrival on the island.
