Trust a woman to revamp an old stockings factory

If you’ve never heard of the Mia Arssi brand of stockings, you will, trust me. The brand is a brain child of Martina Barišić, who was born and raised in Poreč but spent the last decade of her life in Zagreb. After she acquired her degree in business communications, she packed up her belongings and ended up in the US where she worked in Las Vegas in a marketing agency. Since her husband is in the “sock business „and is one of the board members of Jadran, one of Croatia’s oldest sock factories, she decided to put the US observations to good use and to revamp the sock and stockings industry.

“From what I was able to see during my time in the US, it is very hard to find a nice, elegant stocking. They are all either too revealing or too classical. While I was there, I kept asking my husband to send me stockings from Croatia, and that’s how I actually got the idea for the Mia Arssi brand and came up with the entire collection for the US market” Martina says.

In her own words, Mia Arssi is the name that symbolizes women who feel empowered, young and successful.

This entire collection is produced within the Jadran plant and their price ranges between 20 and 40 dollars. In Croatia they are currently only available in Zagreb while there are plans to sell them within the Jadran store in Split. Target markets for this collection are Italy, France, Germany and the UK while they are already in demand in the United States.

Since I have a lot of friends and former coworkers in the US, they were my first customers. I opted for Word-of mouth advertising and it took me a year to promote them. First reactions were amazing and they motivated me to keep going. Online store was our next step and now the sales are on the up and up. I am still going for quality rather than quality – said Martina Barišić.
