Something brand new in the works for Osijek?
The City of Osijek and eighteen local self-government units have a welcome 40 million euro available to them, the largest project being financed by this cash is the reconstruction of Osijek’s historic Tvrđa.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 2nd of September, 2018, 40 million euro from European Union funds has been made available for projects from the integrated territorial investment Facility (ITU) in the area of the urban agglomeration of Osijek, which includes this city and eighteen local self-government units (JLS). In addition, the Ministry of Regional Development and the European Union will provide technical assistance funds in the amount of more than 11 million kuna from the European Regional Development Fund.
It is estimated that the Osijek urban agglomeration project will see as much as 80 to 90 percent of the planned money contracted by the end of 2019.
The largest reconstruction project that falls into this category is the reconstruction of Osijek’s Tvrđa. Worth a massive 8.5 million euro, this is a process which is expected to last for almost four years, ending with the complete reconstruction of the communal infrastructure, according to Žana Gamoš.
Kornelija Mlinarević of the European Union Program Administration Department, said that one of the upcoming projects in Osijek will be the construction of an IT park, which has been being planned for a long time and will result in a “specialised entrepreneurial infrastructure that will enable city companies from the IT sector to continue to further expand their business.” She added that the economy of the area is also of high importance, which was followed by the announcement of the construction of an economic centre, which will include a new space for the staging of fairs and will be realised in cooperation with Osijek-Baranja County.
Head of the Department of Urban Development of the Ministry of Regional Development Darija Magaš said that the project of technical assistance to the agglomeration of Osijek provided more than 11 million kuna in order to strengthen the necessary capacities for the realisation of the projects and to make better use of the money available.
