Latest Data Show Croatian Exports Increasing by 10 Percent

The latest economic good news from Croatia.

In the first eight months of this year, Croatian exports have increased by 10.2 percent compared to the same period last year, while the export-import ratio has reached 60.7 percent, reported the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS) on Friday, reports Jutarnji List on October 9, 2015.

The first preliminary data on foreign trade indicate that, in the period from January to August of this year, Croatian businesses exported goods worth 55.8 billion kuna, which is 10.2 percent or 5.19 billion kuna more than during the same period last year. This is a slightly lower growth rate than in the first seven months, when exports, according to the second estimate released by the DZS on Wednesday, grew by 12.2 percent. On the other hand, in the first eight months imports have increased by 5.8 percent or 5.1 billion kuna and amounted to 92.04 billion kuna.

In the first eight months of this year, exports to EU countries grew at a rate of 15.3 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 37.4 billion kuna. Exports to non-members of the EU at the same time have increased by 1.2 percent to 18.46 billion kuna.

Goods imported from EU countries in the period from January to August amounted to 71.4 billion kuna and have increased compared to the same period last year by 9.8 percent, while at the same time imports from non-members of the EU have decreased by slightly more than 6 percent to 20.6 billion kuna.

The deficit in foreign trade between Croatia and other countries at the end of August amounted to 36.2 billion kuna and was 0.25 percent lower than at the end of August last year, while the export-import ratio rose from 58.3 last year to 60.7 percent at the end of August this year.
