The investment company Kermas Istra has begun with the first stage of construction
The long-awaited project ‘St. Catherine – Monumenti Bay’ in Pula has finally begun to see the light of day, reports Glas Istre on February 16, 2018. After a long process of granting concession and several legal issues that had to be resolved, the nautical complex worth 65 million euro in total has begun with construction.
The investment company Kermas Istra, owned by entrepreneur Danko Končar, has been granted all required permits and is now able to begin with work. The construction project will be realised in three stages: St. Catherine Port for nautical tourism is expected to open as early as in July this year, followed by a dry marina and a hotel complex. The entire project is set to be completed by the end of 2020.
In an exclusive statement for Glas Istre, Končar explained the first stage of construction is finally underway after almost eight years of unexpected twists and turns. A legal issue regarding a sunken ship near St. Catherine island had been preventing the investor from entering the state-owned area for some time; the company obtained a construction permit in September 2017 and reported the beginning of works to the Ministry of Construction and Spatial Planning at the end of January 2018.
The ING-GRAD company from Zagreb was selected as the contractor that will begin the first stage of the project with a complex reconstruction of the existing bridge that connects St. Catherine island with the mainland.
