A tidy sum for one of Šibenik’s gems.

As Poslovni Dnevnik reported on the 2nd of September, 2017, the increasingly popular coastal town of Šibenik will receive HRK 2.5 million for revitalisation of the Fortress of Saint Nicholas (Sveti Nikola), and for the protection and the presentation of local autochthonous architecture, a further HRK 2.3 million will be added.

“Šibenik is exceptionally proud of all four of its fortresses,” stated a comment from the office of Mayor Željko Burić, recalling the encouraging fact that since their respective renovations, the fortresses of Sv. Mihovil and Baron have become cultural and tourist attractions which attract a great many visitors from all over the world.

“The history of the city is interwoven [in the fortresses], and our intent is to renew and protect them, to make them functional and to present the treasure that we have to the world,” reads an official statement.

It would be wrong to say that Šibenik is completely overlooked, but when compared to destinations like Dubrovnik, this beautiful Dalmatian town doesn’t come close, and quite wrongly so!
