Solar Panels a Crown on the Vukovar Innovation Centre

Total Croatia News

The entire project value of BIC is 4.4 million Euro, of which the EU has secured 3.6 million. Excess energy will be sold to the Croatian electroenergy system

The city of Vukovar has announced they are searching for a contractor to build a solar power plant, as reported by Poslovni Dnevnik on June 25, 2016. The investment is worth 213,000 Euro and entails placing 408 photovoltaic modules on top of the business-innovation centre BIC-Vukovar. This upgrade will, as explained by Vukovar Mayor Ivan Penava, complete the construction of the BIC project, financially supported by the EU with non-refundable aid from the regional development funds.

The very project of the Vukovar BIC has been in preparation for years and was initially funded by state funds. This way the infrastructural work and renovation of the facade on the Borovo Poly building was done, while in the middle of 2014 Vukovar turned more seriously to EU funds, managing to secure for this derelict project the means to complete and equip the building that houses three new enterprise centres – the Manufacture Centre, meant for mid-sized and large companies, the Innovative Business Centre, focused on smaller innovative companies and the Education Centre.

The European money was sufficient to equip a second building, the former Borovo printing house, where the Business Incubator is housed, meant for young entrepreneurs who receive three years of subsidized space. As part of the Incubator is the lab for testing renewable sources of energy . sun, wind and hydrogen, so Penava points out it is no coincidence that as part of the project solar panels are being installed.

The total surface area of the new enterprise infrastructure is over 11,000 square metres, while the solar plant will provide BIC with the electric energy to power the buildings, while selling the excess to the national energy system. Expected annual energy production is around 124.84 Mwh, while the contractor tender for the photovoltaic modules is open until July 12. Works should be completed in 45 days, with 15 days of trial runs. The entire project value of BIC is 4.4 million Euro, of which the EU has secured 3.6 million. City officials are satisfied with the first young entrepreneurs to move in to the BIC. They are companies dealing with IT technology, renewable energy sources, footwear production, dental modelling and glass manufacturing.
