Some Croatian tourism investment announcements from the new Minister of Tourism.

About 670 million euros will be invested in Croatian tourism this year, said on Monday the Tourism Minister Anton Kliman, who visited the Lanterna camp in Tar, where Valamar Riviera is investing 86 million kuna, and Amarin Hotel in Rovinj which is being built by Maistra, reports Vecernji List on February 15, 2016.

“The investments for this year in the tourism sector are planned at the level of 670 million euros or about 35 percent more than last year”, said Kliman. He added that he was particularly looking forward to investments in the hotel sector, because the Ministry aims to increase the share of hotel accommodation to at least 18 percent of the total accommodation capacities by 2020. As far as camps are concerned, he believes that it is necessary and crucial to raise their quality level.

Lanterna Camp, a member of the Leading Camping Europe association and the winner of numerous awards for quality, covers an area of 80 hectares and has 2,855 units. According to the CEO of Valamar Riviera Željko Kukurin, the investment of his company in Lanterna is the largest single investment in camping in Croatia this year.

“The transformation of camps into modern higher-quality camping resorts which can attract well-off visitors is one of the key possibilities for growth and development of Croatian tourism”, said Kukurin, adding that Valamar Riviera will this year invest a total of 262 million kuna to increase the quality of its portfolio of hotels, apartments and camps, in destinations from Istria and Krk to Dubrovnik.

The Amarin family hotel is a greenfield investment since it is being built from the ground up on the site of the old Valdaliso hotel which was demolished at the end of last year. Maistra will invest in Amarin as much as 300 million kuna, and it will become a new premium facility in Rovinj intended for families with children. The new hotel will have 280 units which will accommodate 550 guests.

“The new Amarin hotel is intended for families with children with a lot of facilities for them – playgrounds, game rooms, indoor and outdoor pools with rivers and waterfalls, and a mini adrenaline park”, said the CEO of Maistra Tomislav Popović. According to him, the goal of Maistra in the next two years is to invest additional 1.6 billion kuna so that more than 95 percent of its hotel facilities reach the four and five star level of service. He announced that the demolition of the Park Hotel will begin this autumn. It will be turned into a luxurious facility which will continue a series of Maistra investments in hotels with four and five stars.
