Unemployment Rate in Croatia Declines for the Fourth Consecutive Month

Unemployment continues to fall – a comparison with other EU states.

In June, Croatia recorded a decline in the unemployment rate for the fourth consecutive month, while the unemployment in the European Union and the euro area is stagnating for the third consecutive month, reported Eurostat on Friday.

Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Croatia, calculated according to the methodology of the International Labour Organization (ILO), fell in June from 15.7 to 15.3 percent. In June of last year, unemployment rate was 16.9 percent, according to a report by Eurostat.

According to available seasonally adjusted data from Eurostat, in June there was 292.000 unemployed workers in Croatia, a decline of seven thousands compared to May. On an annual basis, the number of unemployed decreased by 29.000.

The highest unemployment rate among the European Union countries still has Greece (25.6 percent), and Spain (22.5 percent). The lowest unemployment rate was recorded in Germany (4.7 percent) and the Czech Republic (4.9 percent).

Compared with the same month last year, the unemployment rate in June 2015 decreased in 21 EU member states, increased in five countries, while in France and Cyprus it remained unchanged.

At EU level, the unemployment rate in June, calculated by the ILO methodology, was 9.6 percent, which means that it remained at the levels recorded during the previous two months. In June of last year it was 10.2 percent.

With unemployment rate for young workers of 43.1 percent, Croatia is among the countries with the highest rates of youth unemployment, together with Greece (53.2 percent), Spain (49.2 percent), and Italy (44.2 percent).

The lowest unemployment rates among young workers in June were recorded in Germany, Malta, Estonia, Denmark and Austria.
