Employees of the “3rd May” Shipyard say that the situation is dire.

Workers of the “3rd May” Shipyard have issued a statement saying they are worried about the fate of their company and announced industrial action steps to help stabilise the company, reports Novi List on October 16, 2017.

The trade union representatives noted that they had already asked the company management to report on the situation at the shipyard, as well as that the unions and the public should be informed about the business restructuring data and the completed items from the agreement on the transfer of shares which was signed as part of the privatization process. The management did not respond to their demands.

“The trade union coordination does not want to cause chaos with its activities, but the situation in the company is such that our membership is concerned about the fate of ‘3rd May’, about the management of operations within the company, as well as about the process of business restructuring. Although the shipyard is operating at full capacity at the moment, we are concerned about the status of future orders for the shipyard. The trade union coordination believes that the main responsibility for the situation in the company is mostly with the Management Board and the owner’s representative,” announced the trade union in the statement.

The trade union has therefore made a decision to pursue further industrial actions in order to draw attention to the situation.

“The trade union has sent a request to the relevant ministry to find a solution, which includes the creation of preconditions for the continuation of production since that is the only guarantee of the survival of the company as a shipyard.”

The workers’ representatives will also organise a vote among trade union members and workers who will be asked to demonstrate their support for the union’s demands. “The vote will take place every day from 16 to 23 October at the time of the daily break from 10.30 to 11.00 am, at trade union commissioners in the production facilities. We invite all workers and trade union members to obtain necessary information and participate in the voting process in order to ensure the survival, protection of jobs and the operations of our shipyard,” concluded the trade union.
