Croatian Army Helping Clear Rubble After the Storm in Slavonia

July 24, 2023 – Minister of Defense Mario Banožić said that the Croatian Army, in accordance with the expressed needs, will continue clearing out the consequences of the storm in Slavonia. In Vukovar-Srijem County many households are still without electricity.

“The Croatian army will be out in the field tomorrow as well, in accordance with the expressed needs of the municipal and county civil protection headquarters,” said the minister after participating in the evening session of the Civil Protection Headquarters of the Vukovar-Srijem County, writes Index.

“Soldiers are repairing infrastructure and protecting the property of Croatian citizens so that other competent services can continue their work. Activities are undertaken with the aim of normalizing the lives of citizens in the county,” he added. There are still many households without electricity.

“That’s why I’m extremely glad that we have positive developments when it comes to the work on electricity connections,” said Banožić.

Today, there were a total of 203 members of the Croatian army on the ground in the county, and the ministry says that almost 300 more were available.

The employees of the Croatian Electric Power Company, Water Company, Croatian Forests, firefighters and employees of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service, together with the Croatian Army, are working to eliminate dangers for citizens and their property.

Banožić visited all the places Affected by the Storm in Slavonia

Yesterday, Minister Banožić also visited all the places facing the catastrophic consequences of the big storm in Slavonia, the press release pointed out.

There were 150 members of the general purpose civil protection on the ground, an additional 100 firefighters with saws and power generators, which are necessary for cleaning and restoring damaged areas. Additionally, there were 60 members of the State Intervention Unit who are experts in working at heights and 30 members of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service for work at heights and inaccessible areas, the civil protection announced.
