August the 27th, 2026 – Croatian firefighters have received six new, highly specialised modern vehicles for extinguishing forest fires.
A ceremony for the handover of new vehicles for extinguishing forest fires was held yesterday at the State Firefighting School in Zagreb. Index reports that the attendees included Chief Fire Commander Slavko Tucaković, county fire commanders and presidents of the firefighting associations of the counties receiving the vehicles, Buzet Mayor Damir Kajin, and representatives of the firefighting units to which the vehicles were allocated.
The six new specialised firefighting vehicles for extinguishing forest fires were financed from funds for the general-purpose functions of forests (OKFŠ). Those funds are distributed through the competent ministry in cooperation with the Croatian Firefighting Association.

Chief Fire Commander Slavko Tucaković said that continuous investment in firefighting equipment further strengthens the operational capabilities of Croatian firefighters.
“By distributing these brand new vehicles, we’re raising the operational readiness of units not only for extinguishing outdoor fires, but also for a range of other sorts of interventions. These vehicles will immediately be put into operational use. Previously allocated vehicles have already been used on major fires on Korčula and near Lokva Rogoznica,” said Chief Fire Commander Tucaković, emphasising that the vehicles were built according to the requirements of fire commanders in the field.

These vehicles are modernly equipped firefighting vehicles designed entirely for extinguishing forest fires and interventions in very demanding terrain. They have 4×4 drives, large water tanks, a fire pump and additional equipment for work in the most difficult conditions. A total of 40 vehicles with 2,500-litre water tanks and 38 vehicles with 5,000-litre tanks have been ordered. Today, five larger-capacity vehicles and one smaller-capacity vehicle were handed over.
The new vehicles were received by the Public Fire Brigade of Petrinja, the Public Fire Brigade of Buzet, the Public Fire Brigade of Imotski, the Public Fire Brigade of Županja, the Senj Volunteer Fire Department and the Brestovac Volunteer Fire Department.
