May the 2nd, 2025 – The Croatian rural tourism portal we recently wrote about has now been presented. Idemonaselo.hr (Let’s go to the village) aims to spotlight rural and more remote areas.
As tocka n i/Zvonko Pavic writes, prompted by the lack of a central location for information on Croatian rural rourism, the Croatian Rural Tourism Association has launched idemonaselo.hr. This will be the “go to” portal for information on authentic local tourism offers in the rural areas of the country.
This is the crowning achievement of a two-year project dedicated to a Croatian rural tourism portal that resulted in a database with information on 1,800 entities (1,600 providers of special forms of tourism and around 200 attractions) in rural areas of Croatia. It also includes such entities located within national parks, nature parks and other protected areas, as well as across other destinations.

The Croatian tourism portal idemonaselo.hr respects the principles of digital accessibility and will as such enable various forms of searching for data on rural areas. This makes it easier for travellers to come across interesting content with the possibility of directly contacting both service providers and potential employers. The basic information was collected in cooperation with the Polytechnic in Križevci, various tourist boards and county offices for economy and tourism, through research, fieldwork and via searching social media.
The portal has been designed as a non-profit collaborative platform for service providers, tourist boards and other stakeholders who will be able to continuously supplement and update their content following its publication, explained Aleksandra Kuratko Pani, Head of the Croatian Rural Tourism Association.
The collection of data and technical work in the development of the Croatian rural tourism portal was financed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the Ministry of Tourism and Sport, the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ) and members of the Croatian Rural Tourism Association. The total value reached 100,000 euros over a period of two years. Additional funds needed for the operation and further promotion of the portal will be provided through donations and sponsorships and by charging for user packages and services.

At the presentation of the portal, held recently at the Croatian Journalists’ Association in Zagreb, a panel discussion was also held on the current (not very commendable) state and future possibilities of digital transformation within rural tourism. A special addition to the event was the presentation of the “Croatian Breakfast” – a table with selected delicacies from rural villages, which was abundant with excellent local ingredients provided by several family farms from Moslavina, Međimurje and Prigorje.
