July the 10th, 2025 – The Croatian capital is a lure for Croats travelling from elsewhere across the country, and Dubrovnik is still the country’s tourism Mecca for foreigners. There’s also a continental Croatian county that has recorded some incredibly low tourism numbers thus far. Here’s a look at the latest Croatian tourism figures.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) has published the most recent Croatian tourism figures. Looking at May 2025, 1.8 million arrivals and 5.9 million overnight stays of tourists were recorded in commercial accommodation facilities. This is 5.1% fewer arrivals and 15.0% fewer overnight stays of tourists compared to May 2024, leading many to ponder the state of the season ahead before June fortunately picked up. When looking at the structure of the total number of overnight stays of tourists, 12.8% were domestic tourist overnight stays, and 87.2% were foreign tourist overnight stays.

Domestic tourists recorded 333,000 arrivals and 748,000 overnight stays, which is 17.4% more arrivals and 20.9% more overnight stays compared to May 2024. Foreign tourists recorded 1.5 million arrivals and 5.1 million overnight stays, which represents 9.0% fewer arrivals and 18.5% fewer overnight stays compared to May 2024.
Also in May 2025, the City of Zagreb was the destination with the most overnight stays realised by domestic tourists, a total of 42,000. This was followed by gorgeous Rovinj with 38,000 overnight stays of domestic tourists, Umag with 31,000, Poreč with 30,000, and Šibenik and Zadar, with 25,000 overnight stays respectively. In the City of Zagreb, 1.2% more overnight stays of domestic tourists were realised in May 2025 compared to May 2024.

On the other hand, foreign tourists realized the most overnight stays down in Dubrovnik in May 2025, racking up 482,000 in total. This was followed by Rovinj up in Istria with 295,000, Split with 286,000, Poreč with 236,000 and the City of Zagreb with 222,000 overnight stays of foreign tourists registered. Although Dubrovnik maintained its leading position among foreign tourists, there was a decrease in overnight stays of 2.6% compared to May 2024. The worst Croatian tourism figures for May 2025, and for the whole of last year, were recorded by Koprivnica-Križevci County. Not known for tourism in any sense, in May there were a total of 1,596 arrivals registered in that continental county, of which 898 were domestic and 698 were foreign.
When it comes to visitors from individual countries, we can confidently say that the most arrivals and overnight stays of foreign tourists in May 2025 were achieved by tourists from Germany, with 221,000 arrivals and 1.0 million overnight stays (14.7% of total arrivals and 19.9% of total overnight stays of foreign tourists). After Germany, the highest numbers were made up by tourists from Austria (12.8%), Slovenia (9.2%), the United Kingdom (8.4%), Poland (6.5%), the USA (5.4%), France (3.3%), the Netherlands (3.2%) and Italy (3.1%).
