ZAGREB, Jan 16 (Hina) – Belgrade High Court has extended custody for another month for six Croatian nationals involved in rioting at a football match in December, local media said on Tuesday.
Twenty-six people, including the six aforementioned Croats, were arrested for involvement in a fight that broke out during a match between Partizan and Crvena Zvezda in Belgrade on December 13.
Belgrade media said that the six Croats, all from the coastal city of Split, were paid to take part in the rioting.
At least 20 persons were injured in the fight, and its cause has not been officially confirmed yet. Media say that it was a showdown between factions of Partizan fans.
Court spokeswoman Bojana Stanković told Beta news agency that a High Court judge had ordered that the custody be extended until February 11, citing a risk of flight and disturbing the public.
Under Serbian law, violent behaviour at sporting events carries a prison sentence of up to 12 years.
