June the 16th, 2025 – Dubrovnik Airport is set to be well connected with winter flights this year, according to the airport’s management.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the efforts Dubrovnik Airport has made to extend its season beyond the shackles of the height of the summer are gaining momentum, with Austrian Airlines the latest carrier to extend its operations into part of the winter. Despite the recent setback of Turkish Airlines, which reduced its year-round operations between Istanbul to just summer seasonal operations, Austrian Airlines plans to maintain operations throughout both November and December, according to Ex-Yu Aviation News.
Starting next winter (more specifically on October the 26th) the aforementioned Austrian carrier will operate two weekly flights between Vienna and Dubrovnik using its 120-seat Embraer E195 aircraft. The route will come to a halt on December the 27th, before resuming on March the 29th, 2026. Austrian Airlines will need to somehow compete directly with the wildly popular Irish carrier Ryanair, which operates flights between Vienna and Dubrovnik year-round. The low-cost carrier’s opening of a base down in Dubrovnik last year was conditional on the airport’s management’s request for year-round operations.
“We’re delighted with Ryanair’s influence at Dubrovnik Airport, especially during the pre- and post-season. During negotiations with Ryanair, we stressed the importance of securing winter flights and successfully secured three routes – London, Vienna and Brussels – each with twice-weekly services. If this proves successful, we’re planning to expand the service next winter,” said Dubrovnik Airport CEO Viktor Ṧober in 2024.
More recently, Lufthansa subsidiary Discover Airlines announced the upgrade of its seasonal flights between Frankfurt and Dubrovnik to year-round flights. During the upcoming winter season, Discover Airlines plans to fly to Dubrovnik Airport three times a week. Dubrovnik Airport is set to be well connected in regard to its other winter flights, as well. Other airlines that will fly to Dubrovnik during the winter, or at least part of it, include Croatia Airlines and LOT Polish Airlines, while Iberia, easyJet, Aer Lingus and British Airways have extended their services until November. Further changes are possible at this stage as Dubrovnik Airport aims to become better and better connected to the rest of Europe with winter flights going forward.
