The history of the festival is truly interesting – the event began in 2014 as a regional wine festival with the goal of promoting wine culture and indigenous varieties of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County, and thanks to the large interest of the targeted and general audience, three years later it became an international festival, as Jutarnji List published on March 22, 2018.
The organizers have prepared a plentiful program in which everyone will find something for themselves. It begins with the “Dubrovnik wine week” during which locals and guests visit restaurants, cellars and wine bars marked “Wine friendly” and taste superior wines combined with fine delicacies of the Dubrovnik area.
The central event is the wine exhibition, to be held on Friday and Saturday, 20 and 21 April 2018, in the wonderful ambience of Sunset Beach in Lapad Bay. During the exhibition, along with meetings of wine professionals and winemakers, there will be lectures and tastings, but also very attractive wine and culinary workshops such as Gault & Millau masterclass workshops by Japanese chef Ippei Uemura and “Sparkling table” by the Sparkling Wine Salon.
“This year Dubrovnik Festiwine marks its fifth birthday, continuing on solid ground in the positive direction of the development strategy of vine growing and winemaking in Dubrovnik-Neretva County. We look forward to all exhibitors and their wines, all visitors and wine connoisseurs, and to healthy competition in which our county wines can confirm their excellence,” said Nikola Dobroslavić, Prefect of Dubrovnik-Neretva County.
Along with already mentioned events, duroing this festival there is a traditional blind tasting and wine selection combined with the indigenous delicacy, the Ston oyster. Along with the attractive “Blind date: In love with Ston Oysters,” there will also be the “Dubrovnik FestiWine Trophy,” a wine rating by an internationally renowned rating team of domestic and international judges and oenologists, headed by Bojan Kobal.
A peculiarity of the festival is the gastro spectacle “Dubrovnik FestiWine Gala,” a dinner to be held on April 19 in the Excelsior Hotel, where seven best wines from last year’s festival will be combined with creative cuisine of young, but proven chefs: guest Igor Jagodic and host Petar Obad. As in previous years, the entire proceeds will go toward scholarships for young cooking and sommelier talents.
