Dubrovnik’s Libertas Bus Company Aiming for New Buses Through EU Funds

Lauren Simmonds

Tired of Dubrovnik’s slightly out of date buses? Thanks to EU funds, there might be a chance of them being dragged into the modern age.

As Dubrovacki Dnevnik writes on the 8th of April, 2018, Dubrovnik’s Libertas public bus service is preparing for a tourist season in which this city company will be one of the most important transport links, since thousands of passengers are transported daily.

In the summer seasons of previous years, Libertas included pretty old buses which weren’t really up to much in the opinion of their users since they were not air-conditioned, not the most comfortable, and their appearance looked like something from an old film. With respect to this year, Libertas has decided that during the summer season, part of the currently active fleet of older, more worn down buses will not be sent out ”to work” until newer vehicles are also available.

They point out that within the framework of the fleet, there is a list of priorities for sending the buses. Namely, the lines are first deployed with newer, air conditioned buses that have a priority in repairing when they happen to have a breakdown.

Dubrovacki Dnevnik discovered that Libertas is working intensively on realising the purchase of new buses through the use of European Union funds.
