Feeling festive yet?

There are two types of people. Scrooges and lovers of all things Christmas, no matter how early things begin.

If you’re already in or planning to visit the City of Dubrovnik, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to see the city getting into the swing of things in time for the festive period. Dubrovnik’s much loved winter festival begins today! The Pearl of the Adriatic is ready for the most wonderful time of the year as the typically summer destination switches up its look in exchange for a fairytale inspired winter wonderland.

As Dubrovacki Dnevnik writes on the 2nd of December, 2017, as the Dubrovnik Winter Festival kicks off today, particular emphasis has been placed on the UNESCO Old City, and on Uvala Lapad.

“This year, the Dubrovnik Winter Festival brings a special festive atmosphere to Lapad Bay (Uvala Lapad), where various children’s programs and facilities will be organised, such as the festive ice skating rink that opens on the tennis courts today, December the 2nd at 15:00,” announces a statement from the City of Dubrovnik.

After that, at 19:30 in front of the Dubrovnik Cathedral, Mayor [Mato] Franković will light the first Advent candle, and the ceremony of the lighting of advent candles will be led by priest and dean Ante Burić.

At 20:30 in front of the church of St. Blaise (Sveti Vlaho) after the Dubrovnik congregation, Mayor Franković will engage in the lighting of Advent candles and officially open the 4th Dubrovnik Winter Festival. Following this, a Gibonni concert will be held in the city.

As Croatia’s southernmost city gets into the spirit of things, you can expect this year’s blossoming and increasingly popular Dubrovnik Winter Festival to bring a wide variety of local food, tradition, music and open air concerts and performances, as well as the already traditional DuRun10k on New Years Day.
