July the 23rd, 2025 – The German IMS Gear is set to construct its first plant on European soil outside of Germany in Osijek, furthering that eastern Croatian city’s presence on the production map.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the future IMS Gear Croatia production facility will be constructed in the Nemetin Business Zone in Osijek. It is the first large-scale production of this company on European soil outside its home country of Germany.
The headquarters of the German company IMS Gear, which is set to grace Osijek with its presence, was visited by Osijek Mayor Ivan Radić. While there, he assessed that this is yet another confirmation of the economic growth and investment potential of Osijek, a city in a region of Croatia ravaged by the consequences of war, as well as dire economic and demographic issues.
The Osijek City Administration announced that Mayor Radić visited the headquarters and production facilities of the German company IMS Gear, which is a globally recognised industrial company. It specialises in the development and production of extremely high-quality drive solutions for the automotive industry, as well as other branches of industry.
During the tour, Radić pointed out that IMS Gear employs just over three thousand people in Germany, Asia and America. The fact that IMS Gear has chosen Osijek to be the location of its very first production facility on European soil outside of Germany is fantastic news for multiple reasons. As mentioned, Osijek and its region is infamous for emigration and an enormous disparity in wealth when compared to the rest of the country, particularly Zagreb and Dalmatia. The significance of the fact that this decision will create employment and encourage inhabitants to remain living and working in the country cannot be overstated.
The City of Osijek sold a 33,442 square metre plot of land to IMS Gear Croatia back in 2023 for 1.1 million euros.
“The interesting thing about this company is that every fourth car produced in the whole world has a part produced by IMS Gear inside it. We’re glad that this company chose Osijek as a place for further development because this is a city that is definitely growing,” said Radić.
“Since I took office as mayor back in 2021, we have had 4,500 more employees registered in Osijek, and I’m sure that with the arrival of IMS Gear, this trend will only continue to grow,” concluded Mayor Radić.
