Unsurprisingly, the 4th edition of the event was sold out.
Eleven kilometres of inspirational hiking trails, seven tasting stations at nine winemakers, seven local producer and caterers, and 600 participants have marked the fourth edition of the popular wine and gastronomy event Istria Wine & Walk, reports Agrobiz.hr on May 22, 2018.
The event was sold out in just 24 hours. The adventure began in Buje, where the walkers took their tasting glasses and hiking maps. The walk through the maze of vineyards in northwest Istria started from the famous Santa Lucia vineyard, founded more than 50 years ago. During the hike, the guests enjoyed tasting Istrian Malvasia, the highly-renowned Terrano and other Istrian varieties of wine produced by famous winemakers Kozlović, Celega, Ravalico, Coronica, Cattunar, Cuj, Veralda, Bassanese, and Franković.
Oštarija Rondo, Restaurant Oliveto, Radošević family farm, Buršić family farm, Duniš family farm, Primizia Food & Wine, Konoba Morgan and Veralda took care of the gourmet offer.
In addition to local wines and food, the participants enjoyed the natural landmarks of northwest Istria, such as the Škarlin Nature Park with beautiful streams and ponds. Many found an oasis of peace on a viewpoint offering views of mountain peaks of Ćićarija and the sea in the distance. The hikers also had an opportunity to visit the “Olive” exhibition at the Tigor gallery and two wine cellars near Brtonigla.
The crowd was a mix of locals and foreigners, mostly from Slovenia. Among them was Metka Bradetić, the director of the Croatian National Tourist Board’s Office in Slovenia. “Northwest Istria is one of the favourite tourist destinations for Slovenian guests, especially before and after the main tourist season. Slovenian guests are often the most numerous participants at various sport and gourmet events organized by the cluster of Northwest Istria. I am glad I had this opportunity to witness for myself the unique experience that Istria Wine & Walk offers through a hike thought vineyards, joined with excellent gastronomic offer and entertainment,” said Bradetić.
This year’s Istria Wine & Walk ended in Buje, where participants continued the celebrations long into the night.
Wine walking trips in northwest Istria have been very well received among the visitors. Earlier this year, the first edition of Sweet Wine & Walk was also organised, while in the autumn the Wine & Walk by Sea event will take place, which will attract all those interested in beautiful autumn walks along the coast, vineyards and olive groves.
