Ivo Baldasar, Braveheart of Split

Total Croatia News

Tanja Radmilo comments on the SDP infighting after the election, as the Mayor of Split calls for the heads of the party leadership.

We all loved the story about William Wallace who started a revolt and led Scottish warriors against the cruel English tyrant who ruled Scotland with an iron fist. The Mayor of Split Ivo Baldasar decided to follow in William Wallace’s footsteps when he asked for blood and the dethroning of Zoran Milanović and the current Social Democratic Party leadership on December 28, 2015.

The Rebel from Split believes that after bad results at the elections, the SDP leaders should resign. The election results were well known from the beginning of November, and if he thought they were that bad how come he did not scream for their heads then? SDP has 56 representatives in comparison with 59 from HDZ. As I understand things were not that bleak thanks to the certain Mr.Brown and because people wanted to see New Kids on the Block.

If we want to be honest in the six weeks that followed, we saw the best Zoran Milanović ever. He was that good that many people in Croatia believed that it was not actually him but his double, and that real Zoran was locked away somewhere waiting for it all to be over. Things were interesting and unpredictable for the first time on the Croatian political scene. Twists and plots were like those from Hollywood blockbusters until it was all over and back to business as usual. That was on the day when masks were taken off. If anything, we have to say that Zoran played it well, of course, he screwed it up very soon by saying that Croatia had in power people from criminal, spying and pro-Ustasha coalition. Come on Zoran, you negotiated with some of these guys until the last day. It reminds me of children that get frustrated because they were not invited to a birthday party.

Frustrated people have difficulties forgetting the frustrators and just cannot wait to get back at them. Which brings me back to Braveheart of Split. Ivo Baldasar was not invited to the birtday party (read his name was not on the SDP election list). Everybody sort of knows that you are not supposed to kick people when they are down. Particularly if you helped them to get there by your idiotic behaviour. When it seems like the Party might get a new boss, it is not a bad idea to kick the old boss while he is down so as not to be left out of the birthday party again. After all, you are nothing without the Party.
