Krapina Neanderthal Museum in Croatia and the world famous site of the Krapina Neanderthals “Hušnjakovo” have been recommended, along with 9 other historical sites celebrating European ideals, values, history and integration, to be placed on the European Heritage Label list.

Other proposed sites are: Olomouc Premyslid Castle and Archdiocesan Museum in the Czech Republic, Sagres Promontory in Portugal, Imperial Palace in Austria, Historic Ensemble of the University of Tartu in Estonia, Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Hungary, Mundaneum in Belgium, WWI Eastern Front Cemetery N°123 in Poland and the European District of Strasbourg in France.

After 18 applications were preselected earlier this year by participating member states, independent panel selected by the European Commission selected the 9 sites which were proposed to be enlisted on December 2, 2015. According to the statement published by the European Commission, they will formally designate the sites in February 2016 while the official ceremony will be held in April 2016 in Brussels. New sites will join the twenty sites that received this label in the last two years.
