Saša Hortig has been selected as one of the best new talents.
Saša Hortig, a final year student of the Zagreb Faculty of Textile Technology, is another Croatian name that has found its way to the international fashion scene. His graduation collection “The New Revolutionaries” was singled out as one of the best new design entries for the autumn/winter 2016 and is listed among the finalists of the contest on the website of the Italian edition of the Vogue magazine, reports wish.hr on July 10, 2016.
“Being included in the Vogue selection and in the competition with designers from over 30 countries is a great incentive for me and a confirmation that direction that I have chosen is the right one”, says Saša. In Croatia, he has already received a formal recognition for his work. In 2013, under the name VULETICHORTIG, and in cooperation with Petra Vuletić who recently became a part of the Rick Owens brand, Saša won the Portanova Fashion Incubator, a Croatian competition for young fashion designers.
“The New Revolutionaries” collection conceptually reflects the notion of the clothing size from the perspective and social construction of gender. Referring to the sexual revolution of the 1960s, the collection remains gender-unspecified. The stereotypical male and female clothing conventions translate into the collection of overly enlarged or reduced elements. With this focus, Saša Hortig builds on the “elimination of gender boundaries” idea. Dealing with what we can already describe as an obsessive topic of our time, he manages to offer a new and fresh idea. The collection was created under the mentorship of professor Jasminka Končić and photos are produced by another young talent – Darija Cikač.
In the meantime, designer Marija Kulušić was also included in the Italian Vogue’s competition for young designers – FASHIONCLASH. The competition was held in Maastricht, Netherlands, where Marija showed her latest collection for autumn/winter 2016 that has still not been presented in Croatia. Marija and Saša’s brands are already known in the Croatian fashion scene which awaits their new achievements.
