Cruise ship traffic is on the steady rise thanks to the new port in Gaženica, which is becoming a successful port of call.

Cruise ship traffic in Zadar has been steadily growing for the last five years. Last year, in 2016, there was a 94 percent increase in the number of cruise ship passengers compared to 2015, reports Radio Zadar on August 20, 2017.

Strong promotion and newly built port infrastructure in Gaženica have greatly contributed to this growth of traffic in the last two years. Over the past six years, the number of cruise liners grew by 40 percent, and, thanks to the new port of Gaženica, the number of cruise passengers rose 7 times and reached 136 thousand last year.

This year, this number is expected to rise further. Big cruise ships with over 2,000 passengers have extended their arrival and will be docking in Zadar until the middle of November.
