ZAGREB, February 23, 2018 – President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović on Friday received representatives of Serb associations of the war missing following an agreement reached during an official visit by Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vučić to Croatia on February 12 and 13, and the main topic of the talks today was resolving the fate of ethnic Serbs who went missing in Croatia during the 1990s Homeland War.
The President was accompanied by a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the Veterans’ Affairs Ministry and security-intelligence agencies, the President’s Office said in a press release. Serbia’s Ambassador to Croatia Mira Nikolić also attended the meeting, the press release said.
The Serb delegation informed President Grabar-Kitarović of their activities to date and efforts to find and shed light on the fate of the missing, the press release said.
Starting from the right of families to know the truth about the fate of their loved ones, the President underscored Croatia’s strong support and her personal dedication to resolving this issue. She said that this was primarily a humanitarian issue and that she believes that dialogue will lead to a breakthrough.
The talks underscored that it was essential for all those involved to cooperate, and hope was expressed by both sides that the coming months would bring progress so that the uncertainty of these families can be brought to an end.
Assistant veterans’ affairs minister Stjepan Sučić reported on activities so far and expressed readiness for continuous cooperation on issues that were underlined by the Serb associations, the press release said.
