ZAGREB, May 16, 2018 – Although residents of Posavina Canton enjoy some benefits of the life along the border with Croatia, it is necessary to invest more in the economy and education so that people would remain in the region, Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović said on Tuesday during a visit to Orašje in northeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“I am happy that Posavina Canton residents can enjoy the benefits of the proximity of Croatia, such as medical care. However, it is necessary to invest more in the canton, in agriculture… but also in the overall economy and education,” said Grabar-Kitarović during her first state visit to this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Thanking Grabar-Kitarović for her visit, the head of the cantonal government Marijan Klaić asked for her support in boosting development of this part of the Bosanska Posavina region.
The president then visited the Orašje Cantonal Hospital in which Croatia had invested approximately 30 million kuna (EUR 4.05 million).
Grabar-Kitarović visited Orašje after her visit to the southern town of Mostar and the central town of Vitez where she opened a Croatian consulate.
