“I would be surprised. I absolutely don’t think that the prime minister is angry wit me at all. Considering the amount of questions heaped upon him, I don’t think that had anything to do with me. I think our relationship is still good, that he appreciates what I do,” Vanđelić told N1 television commenting on the prime minister’s statement that Vanđelić could do more for Zagreb as mayor than he could as the acting director of the Reconstruction Fund.

Vanđelić said he expected the prime minister to give him his confidence in leading the Fund even after the failed talks on his candidacy. He added that after all he would be glad to be replaced by a person better than him.

“There is no question about it. Right now I am here, but if there is someone better than me, as a citizen of Zagreb and as a person experienced in reconstruction, I will be happy to be replaced. That’s the least problem, but I don’t see any problem in our cooperation, either before or now,” Vanđelić said.

He said that the main motive for him to stay on as the director of the Post-Earthquake Reconstruction Fund was to ensure fast and efficient reconstruction of Zagreb and that he did not want to “waste his energy on two sides.” He said he expected reconstruction work to start in three months.
