Ministry of Defence Employs 550 Soldiers and Sailors

Selected candidates have signed contracts with the Ministry.

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Defence has signed contracts with 550 soldiers and sailors who have been admitted to active military service. They will be allocated to different units of the Armed Forces, said the Ministry in a statement, reports N1 on October 4, 2016.

Of the 550 selected candidates, there are 63 women and 487 men, while the average age is 22. This means that the 2016 plan for recruitment has been fully implemented. The plan provided for 800 soldiers and sailors to be employed, and in the first quarter of the year the Armed Forces already signed contracts with another 250 soldiers and sailors.

“The recruitment of soldiers and sailors into the Armed Forces rejuvenates our military. Their youth and experience of those who are already members of the Croatian military gives us new strength and open up possibilities for further strengthening of the Armed Forces”, said Chief of Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces General Mirko Šundov.

The candidates will be referred to specialist military training, or probationary period, depending on gender, profession and service, no longer than six months. After completing specialized training, the soldiers will be deployed to positions according to the needs of the Armed Forces. If there is a need for their further services after initial contracts expire, a second contract can be signed for up to five years, and a third contract for up to six years.

In August, the Ministry of Defence announced a tender for the recruitment of soldiers and sailors into active military service. The selected candidates signed their contracts with the Ministry at the military barracks “Lora” in Split, “Zemunik Donji” in Zemunik, “Kamensko” in Karlovac, “Kune” in Đakovo, “123rd Brigade Barracks” in Požega, “Bilogora” in Bjelovar, and “Marko Živković” at Pleso, said the Ministry in the statement.
