ZAGREB, September 29, 2018 – Speaking about the fake texts scandal and leaks of information from secret preliminary investigations, Police Director Nikola Milina said on Saturday that all staffers who had access to official data in that case would be questioned, but did not specify how many people that involved.

He confirmed that the police had done their job professionally in this case and that everything would be done to investigate it to the end, Milina told reporters during celebrations in Zagreb marking Police Day.

According to Milina, several institutions and people worked on the case in which information on a secret preliminary investigation of former police IT expert Franjo Varga was leaked via Blaz Curić, a driver in the Agriculture Ministry.

In cases of this nature, a number of institutions are involved, which means several people can have access to official information, and in this case we will investigate everything fully and anyone who had access to information will be questioned, he said.

Varga was arrested last week on suspicion that he had created fake text messages for former Dinamo football club head Zdravko Mamić, who attempted to use them as evidence of pressure by former Chief State Prosecutor Dinko Cvitan on Osijek County Court, which was trying Mamić and three other accused. Curić was arrested on Wednesday, suspected of tipping Varga that he was going to be arrested for the fake texts and warning him to destroy all the messages, numbers and other things.
