Former Croatian President Stjepan Mesić is ready to advise US President-elect Donald Trump.
Former Croatian President Stjepan Mesić sent a congratulatory note to US President-elect Donald Trump after his victory and offered his help in running the US government. Mesić announced the news on his website, reports Index.hr on November 12, 2016.
“Allow me to join all those who are congratulating you on the victory in the presidential elections in the USA. You faced a joint front of the establishment and the mainstream media and fought brilliantly, winning a great battle.
As somebody who, unlike you, spent the greatest part of his life in politics (including 10 years as President of Croatia), believe me that I know what I am saying when I tell you that you won against all odds. Although I am not actively involved in politics any more, I followed closely and with great interest the whole campaign. I was relieved when I heard you speaking about foreign policy and the place and role of the USA in the world.
Imposing regimes and provoking a confrontation with Russia were the greatest mistakes Washington did in recent years. I trust you will be able to lead both the USA and the world towards a better and promising future.
I would welcome the opportunity to meet you, especially if you would at any time feel that the experience and knowledge of a European head of state (a small one, though) could be of any benefit for you”, wrote President Mesić in his message.
Stjepan Mesić was president of Croatia from 2000 to 2010. During the time, he opposed American war against Iraq, although he did support Croatia’s entry into the NATO (which happened in 2009). He has advocated maintaining better relations with Russia, China and non-aligned countries.
