ZAGREB, August 19, 2018 – An on-site investigation of the Lopača Psychiatric Hospital has ruled out a technical cause of Friday’s fire in the facility, while the identity and cause of death of the person killed in the fire will established after an autopsy, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Police spokeswoman Ankica Kolić said in Rijeka on Saturday.

She added that the material damage amount would be established later.

The fire broke out around 4 p.m. on Friday. About 50 firemen were putting it out, containing it by evening.

The hospital said all patients had been evacuated and provided for. A total of 114 people were in the hospital, including 94 patients. After the evacuation, about 80 were placed in wings that did not catch fire, 31 were placed in Rijeka Hospital and some were on temporary leave before the fire.

Fifteen people were injured in the fire and taken to Rijeka Hospital yesterday. Most were released after being examined, while one who was burned is in intensive care.
