Karamarko: MOST and Petrov Will Not Bring Down This Government

Coalition partners continue to attack each other.

On the eve of the party congress on Saturday, HDZ today held a meeting of the party’s Presidency. After the meeting, HDZ president Tomislav Karamarko briefly addressed the media, reports Večernji List on May 27, 2016.

The key message was that he would not resign as First Deputy Prime Minister, although his coalition partner supported his dismissal. “Today we had a meeting of the Presidency and we talked about many of the current problems. HDZ will use all its strength and energy to make sure that this government survives. MOST and Božo Petrov will not bring down this government. Also, all these scenarios designed to destroy HDZ, to demoralize the party, to bring dissension and disorder, they will not succeed, because HDZ is the main party and the future of Croatia largely depends of the future of HDZ. We are unanimous about that”, said Karamarko surrounded by members of the Presidency.

MOST president and Deputy Prime Minister Božo Petrov said earlier that MOST would support SDP’s motion of no confidence vote against Karamarko. At today’s telephone session, the government gave its support to Karamarko, but all six ministers from MOST voted against the decision.

Petrov later held a press conference and said that he had the support of 12 MPs from MOST, while 3 MPs possibly have different opinion. He added that, if Karamarko were to survive the vote in Parliament, they would then decide whether the party would remain in government or not.
