Municipal Landfill Director Pays Himself Million Kuna Bonus

Not a bad job if you can get it.

Mladen Jozinović, the director of Piškornica municipal utility company, who has paid a million-kuna bonus to himself, will most likely be dismissed on Monday, after serving as director since 2012. The only question is whether he will resign or be fired, reports Jutarnji List on November 17, 2017.

According to unofficial information, the owners of the company, which are Varaždin, Međimurje, Krapina-Zagorje and Koprivnica-Križevci County, would prefer the second option, as it would be cheaper. “If the director is forced out, we would have to pay him two more salaries. If he resigns himself, that obligation would no longer exist. On Monday, we will see what will be decided,” said a source, adding that majority of the owners, which in addition to the counties includes the Municipality of Koprivnički Ivanec, agree that Jozinović can no longer be the director.

This became clear after it was discovered that Jozinović, as the director of the Piškornica Regional Waste Management Centre, where he receives a monthly net salary of 18,500 kunas, founded the Piškornica Sanacijsko Odlaganje company and gave himself the right to additional 10,000 kunas in monthly fees, as well as a bonus in the amount of 10% of the revenues. Since the company last year had revenues of 10.2 million kunas, Jozinović has paid a million kunas in bonus to himself. Owners now say they will demand the money back.

The critical meeting will take place on Monday when an extraordinary session of the company’s shareholders will take place. The first item is Jozinović’s responsibility and the second is the establishment of the supervisory board for the company.

“When I became the county prefect, I received a financial report. Realizing that the business had far greater revenues than the parent company, I asked for a complete audit, after which I realised that certain things were going on which I could never support. In short, Jozinović can no longer be the director,” said Varaždin County Prefect Radimir Čačić, explaining that the company was subjected to an internal audit by six county auditors.

Međimurje County Prefect Matija Posavec also said it was likely that Jozinović would be dismissed on Monday, adding that they would seek reimbursement of the money which the director paid to himself.

Koprivnica-Križevci County Prefect Darko Koren agreed that Jozinović should definitely return the money, while Mayor of the Municipality of Koprivnički Ivanec Mario Švegović said that he had to go. “Jozinović must leave or be dismissed. I hope the session on Monday will be open to the public so that Jozinović can defend himself in front of the citizens,” said Švegović.
